Because happiness is giving and education is essential, the Devasom Scholarship aims to grant students with funding in higher education to help them achieve a better quality of life and build a happier society
Devasom Resorts, which owns and manages two luxury properties, Devasom Hua Hin Resort and Devasom Khao Lak Beach Resort and Villas, has always been dedicated to giving back to society and creating a sustainable, happy community. In the firm belief that education is the best gift, the company has announced the first year of the Devasom Scholarship, awarded in 2022 to provide access to higher education for Thai youths.
“In our operation throughout the years, Devasom Resorts has always made sure that our staff are happy. We believe that happiness is contagious, and it can be passed on from one person to the next. And our resort guests can sense our staff’s happiness from their smiles and the brightness in their eyes. This is what we call the circle of happiness, and this year we intend to expand this circle beyond our properties and into society,” said Is Atirak, Founder and Co-Managing Director of Devasom Resorts. “We established the Devasom Scholarship as part of our mission to sustainably give back to the community by giving access to higher education to local youths so that they can further develop themselves and the community they come from. We need nothing in return, because knowing that our effort brings forth happiness and sustainability to the community that we are close to is already very rewarding.”
The first recipient of a Devasom Scholarship is Miss Supawida Chupradit, an amicable student who just graduated from Takuapa-Senanukul School in Takuapa District of Phang-Nga Province. For her dream of becoming an engineer, Supawida is getting a five-year tuition and expenses to pursue a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering at the Faculty of Engineering, King Mongkut’s University of Technology Thonburi. From this year onward, Devasom Scholarship will award one non-binding scholarship per year to cover the tuition fee of an entire bachelor’s degree program in any field, which totals approximately 100,000 baht per year.
Education is not only a crucial tool for an individual to make a living, but it is also a substantial building block for a strong, sustainable and happy community as well as for society and the country. Access to all levels of education is therefore very important. However, 2020 statistics from the Office of the National Economic and Social Development Council (NESDC) shows that an average high school-level student needs around 7,000 baht per year to pursue their education, and that results in only 60% of the population having the means to complete high school and as little as 28% able to pursue tertiary education. Devasom Resorts hopes that with this humble Devasom Scholarship initiative, more youths will be able to pursue their dream in education and help create a better, more sustainable and happier society in the future.
